Search Engine Optimisation - Does It Actually Work?
We´ve all heard all the talk: "Google is King! You need to get your site to the top of Google".
So, how do you go about ensuring your newly designed site is seen ahead of your competitors in the Google listings? Well, Search Engine Optimisation is how you do it, stupid!
Sorry. Did I just call you stupid? Actually, that comment should have been directed inwardly!
After a recent conversation with a friend and SEO expert, it may have turned out that I had something to learn in regard to Search Engine Optimisation, but I´m not shy to say Im now being taught by the best!
The Cobbler Is Guilty As Charged, Your Honour.
I´m an experience web designer. Luckily, Im also quite a busy man as it happens!
So, I found myself in the " cobblers children have no shoes" scenario where my own website had been neglected.
Then a friend and SEO guru, let´s call him "Merlin" to preserve the mysticism, pointed out that my own site wasn´t showing up in Google for any of the terms he thought were relevant to my business. Here I was, convincing my clients of the importance of good Search Engine rankings, while my own site was drifting off into obscurity!
Black Art, Smoke and Mirrors
I´ve always believed that true Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is a black art. Indeed, Merlin can often be observed cowering in lonely corners or peering mischieviously from behind small bushes as he sets to work!
But, he assures me that there are simple steps to achieving credible rankings. So, he has agreed to use my site as a case study to prove his genius. He has set about his trade in a frenzied fashion to boost the rankings of this site. And already, we´re seeing results! This site is climbing its way towards higher rankings very nicely.
Secrets Revealed!
In the coming weeks, when Merlin has weaved his magic and handed the wand back to me to continue, I´ll be bringing you an update of how it all came about! Like all great magicians, I dont expect Merlin will allow me to reveal all his secrets, but I´m sure we´ll all learn something!
